Investor Blog Entry - Henry Canafax

I think that Marcus Lemonis and Kevin O’Leary were the two best investors.  I think O’Leary was better for giving start-up investments, as he showed in “Shark Tank.”  To me, his investment offers were better than all the other sharks.  I think Lemonis was better at giving business advice to businesses that were going under.  He proved this in “The Profit” when he save a business that was very close to failing.  He sugarcoated nothing and faced each issue head-on rather than try to find a way to evade it all together.  Something I liked about both of them was that they were both brutally honest with their clients.  The major difference between these two investors is that one of them invests in businesses that he believe are doing alright and with his investment will do even better, whereas the other one invests in businesses that are doing poorly and he believes that he can save.

shark tank and Marcus- Mackkeal Mason

I believe that the sharks are better because the have a variety of assistance and can provide more resources that can help a new business strive to new levels of profit, I do  think that the fact they basically take a part of your company is a sad part that should be really thought about, but if you are willing to do this for better help in the end then the sharks are the ideal group.

If I had a business I would probably do something involving technology as technology is always advancing and new ideas are always welcomed. I think that no matter what I would make it would help a very large number of people by tackling a very basic inconvenience to people's lives. Since I am working with technology, I would probably work with Kevin Oleary because of his ability to market technology and his own personal history in working with technology.

The sharks seem to fund in a method of paying a certain amount for a part of a company. Marcus, however, seems to pay first for what the business needs and then asked the business to pay him back with interest rates that allow him to make a profit in the end and help a struggling business.

Shark Tank vs. Marcus Lemonis
Shark Tank is a better investor because those who want help with their business and want to make it big, have a choice from choosing 6 different sharks. Marcus Lemonis is his only individual person he can't partner up with other business people. The sharks can invest their money on an idea they like but don't have to go in to investing into the job alone they can make a business plan together with another shark. If I had my own business, which would be based off of the fashion industry my own clothing line; I would chose to partner up with Lori Greiner. I would chose her because she invests in the fashion industry, she knows what she is doing and has a fashion business herself.

The Profit vs. Shark Tank

A key difference between The Profit and Shark Tank is that Marcus Lemonis will actually visit the company and provide them hands-on help. To receive equity from the company he is helping, he offers the owners total control of the company for a certain amount of time. In the The Shark Tank, the four sharks just pitch out their offers to the entrepreneurs and lets them decide on the spot.

If I had my own business it would be a clothing line. I'm highly into streetwear fashion and enjoy the street influenced culture that comes along with each article of clothing. Creating a brand of clothing line would be phenomenal and would gear my business towards street fashion brands such as Supreme, Mint Crew, Bape, Perspectives Global etc. An investor I would work with would be Daymond John because he knows his way around the fashion industry. FUBU was the brand he created that was very successful for a decent amount of time, but as new brands surfaced FUBU would slowly die out. With his knowledge, he could tell me the do’s and don’ts of the fashion industry and provide me crucial information leading my brand.

marcus.jpegI believe that Marcus Lemonis is a better investor because of his hands-on experience with business owners he works with. While watching The Profit, Marcus Lemonis would provide tips and tricks to the business owners he worked with. He didn’t just pitch an offer to them like the Sharks and prayed that it would work. Lemonis would actually go into the business and take total control for a certain amount of time. For example, he helped CarCash become a nation wide business. With his mindset and knowledge, I believe he is a very strong investor.

This is a sample posting for our classroom blog.  Personally, I like both Shark Tank and The Profit; I think we learn different lessons from each program and I think every student can take something away from the Sharks' way of doing business as well as that of Marcus Lemonis.  Both programs are very informative.
